Sense of Purpose
Fred Rohan Vargas has written dramatic works about the tenacious hold that racism has on American Life for more than twenty years. He continues to find interesting and even comic ways to explore the persistence of racial prejudice, particularly in the working – and middle-class sectors of our nation, where people of every color and creed work and play together and fall in love and intermarry, yet cannot seem to escape their ingrained and irrational prejudices about each other. In a period dominated by superficiality and trendiness on the stage, Fred is, to my mind, an old-fashioned socially conscious playwright
